"The Crown"

Acrylic, ceramic, golden leaf and iron under canvas for The Queen.

The Masterpiece

The artwork crowns the nature and culture of Minas Gerais, the home state of the artist and Banco Itaú.

The Serra do Curral in the capital Belo Horizonte is sculpted in ceramic end to end, flanked by the Pico de Itabirito on the left and the Itacolomi on the right.

This composition honors the Baroque art of Minas Gerais, which flourished in Ouro Preto, as well as Itabirito, the artist's hometown, emancipated from Ouro Preto 100 years ago.

The triangle of the Minas Gerais flag in iron ore, together with the gold leaf finish, references the land's abundance.

The Artist

"I was born in Itabirito, a small town between Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto. My childhood memories are the inspiration for many of my paintings, but leaving Itabirito for college and working 3 months in NYC was a turning point as I found the courage to be myself while dancing to pop music.

When I moved to São Paulo to start my own fashion brand, armed with courage but limited resources, I drew strength from music to overcome the challenges of being an artist and entrepreneur. Later, while managing a big fashion line in Brazil's oldest fashion brand, I turned to art to express the pressure and emotions I endured. I'm one of those survivors.

There is 'The Queen' before 'The Crown'.

While I'm shaping my own path in fashion, art, and now technology, Madonna was the one ensuring my future is possible. I really don't imagine my life without the path she forged."

The Moment

It's a very special moment for the artist. Balancing his work designing an accessible AI assistant for common people in Brazil with his passion for art, he prepares the "Mother Mary, Father Baroque" exhibit. It will debut in the end of 2024 in his hometown at the new Centenary Square, later traveling to the Museu Boulieu and Casa Gonzaga in the Historic Town of Ouro Preto.

The Process

The artist's journey as a painter began in 2017, spontaneously layering memories onto canvas. Inspired by Madonna, "The Crown" employs a similar process: each brushstroke vibrates with the artist's deep connection to her music and pays tribute to the fellow Black and LGBTQ+ pioneers who paved the way together with Madonna for impacting art and society forever.

The video bellow illustrates what the artist dreamed for painting "The Crown".
